The proud postal carriers of the United States have an unofficial credo, “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their rounds.”

Being in the Berkshires, Lee does, at times, suffer from all of the above, but its stalwart postal workers all appear to have abided to the best of their abilities by this motto. History recalls some dedicated Lee postal workers working until the afternoon on Christmas Day, delivering the mail on bicycle, driving 40 miles by rig and horses to get the mail to its recipients.

In the late 1700’s, Lee didn’t have a post office, the nearest – and only one in the Berkshires – being in Springfield.

Now Lee has a main Post Office and sub-offices. But you can learn about the “good old days” of the US mail service in Lee by clicking on the “More” button.
